“Reels, reels, reels, show up, be consistent, post more, find groups, do lives, do polls…do the bloody hokey pokey”…
You’ve probably seen this kind of advice flying around on how you to ‘fix’ your marketing and and not only is it appallingly advice…it’s probably going to give you a breakdown.
Here’s the thing… Your customers are humans. They’re probably quite smart and they don’t need you to bang them over the head with your brand 24 hours a day.
Now- I’m gonna let you in on a little secret… One of the first (and most unsavoury principles) of marketing is to prey on people’s weaknesses….
So when you see that kind of pushy, hustley “DO MORE!” advice… it’s nearly guaranteed to be coming from people that have skin in the game.
You know.. the ones.
They’re the self confessed gurus. The one’s selling courses or coaching 😩🙈
And so…in order to provide an income for themselves, they need to make you feel inadequate
Don’t be offended – it’s just how the whole thing works.
Unfortunately, regardless of whether you take the free courses, challenges or discovery calls – you’ll still always feel like you’re not doing enough.
And in moments of motivation you might spend hours or even days ramping up your social media…
You’ll put yourself ‘out there’ on reels, do weird dancing for no reason and rack your brains about what ‘behind the scenes’ stuff you can post (without showing the mess in the background)…
You’ll think to yourself “I’ve got this! I’ve put in the work – now I will sit back and wait for the riches to appear”
Only they don’t…
And that’s because instead of focusing on what your business does and what your customers really want – you became an Oozlum Bird (like old matey in the photo👆).
“Erm….WTF is an Oozlum Bird?”
I’m glad you asked.
It’s a mythical creature found in Australian folklore.
Legend has it that when this bird gets startled, it flies around frantically in ever decreasing circles, flapping faster and faster until it eventually disappears up it’s own bum hole.
So birds and bums aside… what can you do to ensure that you don’t get startled into behaving this way?
💡 Well the first step is to realise that marketing and social media are NOT the same thing.
And if you want to know more about what marketing really is, then the second step is to treat yourself to a short course taught by someone who’s the real deal.
(BTW, this course is FREE… feel like I need to include that before you get the defences up, waiting for me to sell you something).
This guy is a dude called Alex Hormozi. He’s a ridiculously ripped squillionaire who made his dough with a line of gyms… And before you think ‘that has nothing to do with my business’…. It really doesn’t matter.
He has nothing to sell you, he doesn’t need your money – he’s just got some really rad business advice.
Believe me, his words will do more for your business than a million shitty social media courses or coaching calls ever will.
You can enrol in the course here https://www.acquisition.com/training and if you know of anyone that would benefit – then please feel free to pass this on.
Consider it your good deed for the year.
