“Are you really as bad as you make out?”
“How did this whole thing happen?”
If these burning questions have crossed your mind, then friend, you’ve come to the right place 👍
In this first book, Tales of a Terrible Equestrian - I’ll unpack the backstory of my foray into the horse world after 20 something years away.
It’s a tale of one person’s deluded ego (possibly fueled by alcoholism) and the rude reality of standing amongst the remains of shattered dreams.
A new Chapter will be released every few days and are available to paid subscribers.
If you’re still wondering if $3 a week is worth it, then you can read a sneak peak in the posts below 😎
Chapter 1 - The wrong horse for the wrong reasons...
First impressions matter and nothing says incompetent horse person more than someone saying “Hey.. Did you know your trailer isn’t properly attached to your car?” … and you’ve driven for at least 100 kilometres with no idea there was even a problem.
Chapter 2: Somehow it happened again
The thing about schmuckish behaviour, is that you often don’t learn from your mistakes. See, Schmucks often double down on poor choices…And that, Dear Reader, was me.
Chapter 3: Lessons in Getting Lessons
Remember that bewildering brain fart when I thought I’d go from zero to hero in five weeks? That I’d get back to my fearless teenage equestrian skills in less time than it takes to grow a tomato? Oh mate, I can assure you that was never, ever going to happen.
Chapter 4: The Pub Ride
When my friend first floated the idea of a riding our horses to the pub, I was thrilled. One of the biggest appeals of getting back into horses was the idea of doing stuff with horses and other people. Also, at the time I was a full blown alcoholic - so naturally the pub sounded appealing 🍻
Chapter 5 - Beware the online cults & wavy white ropes
What happened over the next 18 months was pretty amazing from a human psychology perspective. There are a lot of people still quite entrenched in this world and I can feel the angry comments brewing… so please remember that what I’m about to share is just my experience.
Chapter 6 - A Corner Is Turned
“Tell me about your horse and what you’d like to get out of this lesson?” It’s a pretty standard way for a new coach to start a lesson and this was no different. We were halfway through the pandemic and in a brief window between lockdowns, where I’d committed to attend every equestrian outing I possibly could.
